I had a follow-up group activity with my learners. They had created QR Codes to use in their classroom. The science teacher decided that she would video tape student labs. Then when students are absent they could scan a QR codes that would take the student to the lab demonstration. An idea that was mentioned earlier is that we could put QR codes in books to generate interest, but someone suggested that students video tape themselves giving a book talk and then create a QR code to their to put into books.
We also discovered that some of our QR codes did not work, because a small part of them were cut off when printed. The math teacher also had issues with videos not playing. We think that it had to
do with the device, because it came up on my phone. These issues are
important to know about because it will definitely come up when using with students. All of the issues made us realize that we must double-check all our QR Codes to make sure that they work prior to student use.
AWESOME!! As I was reading all of your posts, I had an "ahh-haaa" moment! As a math teacher, I could use this for part of our semester review. I could have the students use Educreations to demonstrate and explain of different topics we covered this semester. Then, the application produces a URL that students could use to create their own QR Code. We could print them off and hang them around the room and other students could use the QR Codes to review each topic. AND/OR - I could put each QR Code right on the semester review and then students could look at the example if they needed help when they were at home. They're going to love this! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great idea Lisa. I have tried to post on your blog a few times but for some reason it won't work. I like what you are doing with Educreations & Edmodo. How do your students like it?

ReplyDeleteGreat project, Julie. I just got back from a Higher Logic User's Group conference in DC where our name badges had QR codes on them. When scanned, it showed the profile page of the attendee and sent them an automatic friend request. Great networking strategy!
